How much does funeral repatriation cost?
Every repatriation is different. Here we explain what affects the price, what is included and who usually pays, so that you can ask for a clear, personalised quote.
What affects the price
Origin
The country and the place of death determine the local documents, the partners involved and the first transport.
Destination
The country and town of destination determine the consular documents and the receiving funeral director.
Transport method
Air cargo or a funeral vehicle by road: the choice depends on distance, timing and the family’s wishes.
Other factors
Preparation
Preservation treatment or embalming, dressing and the coffin required for international transport.
Documents
Certificates, translations, apostilles and consular fees, which vary between countries.
Family services
Funeral service, burial or cremation at destination, and support for relatives who travel.
Documents and services included
Our quote lists every item clearly. Depending on the case, it includes the formalities, the preparation of the deceased, the transport and the coordination with the funeral director at destination.
We do not publish standard prices because costs change a lot from case to case. We prefer to give you a precise figure.
What our quote can include
- requests for certificates and authorisations
- relations with consulates, insurers and authorities
- washing, dressing and preservation treatment
- coffin for international transport
- flight booking or road transport
- handover to the receiving funeral director
Body or ashes
Repatriation of the body
It requires a sealed double coffin, preservation treatment and transport as air cargo or by funeral vehicle. It is the more complex option.
Repatriation of the ashes
It requires fewer documents and the urn can often travel with a family member, so the cost is generally lower.
Insurance and who pays
Insurance
Travel insurance often covers repatriation up to a set limit. Call the insurer before making arrangements.
The family
Without insurance, costs are paid by the family. Embassies and consulates assist, but do not normally pay for repatriation.

How long does it take to receive a quote?
We reply quickly. In urgent cases we give you a first indication on the phone, during the call.
Does travel insurance cover the whole cost?
It depends on the policy and its limits. If the insurer covers the repatriation, we work directly with its assistance service and tell you about any costs that are not covered.
How is the repatriation paid?
The payment terms are stated in the quote. If the insurer pays, we agree the payment directly with the insurer.
Is repatriating ashes cheaper than a body?
Generally yes, because fewer documents are needed and the urn does not need a sealed coffin or air cargo transport.
Are there hidden costs?
Our quote lists every item. If something changes, for example a request from the authorities, we inform you before proceeding.
